Northern Italy wine tasting for those looking for an exclusive romantic weekend getaway with a focus on wine tasting, fine dining, and luxurious accommodations, I have designed two special itineraries. There are two wine regions in Lombardy, both only an hour and a half from Milan.
Tour #1: Friday to Sunday (two night/days)
The region of Franciacorta, known as the “king of bubbles,” is a joy for wine lovers. This is also a district of numerous castles, mansions, old churches and villas just waiting to be visited. Your Dionysus (Greek name for wine god)wine tour will begin by visiting the most beautiful winery in Franciacorta. A winemaker will give you a private tour of the estate, showing you the process of making sparkling white and red wine, and giving you full tasting of various wines from Franciacorta, Piedmont and Tuscany, finishing with a delicious liqueur wine.
Pinot nero, Franciacorta
After lunch at a charming local Trattoria (restaurant) tasting the marvelous traditional menu (local specialties) and all your hard day's wine tour, you can relax by visiting nearby Lake Iseo with the option of taking a short cruise. Another option is visiting the small Montisola Island on the Iseo Lake or you can visit one of the prettiest towns of this region, Bergamo or Clusone.
Tour #2: Friday to Sunday (two night/days)
This wine tasting takes you to the Pavia region called Oltrepo, referred to as the “Tuscany of the Northern Italy” and is one of the most popular wine roads in Italy. The Oltrepò Pavese (it means the area on the other side of the river Po), is well known all over the world as an area privileged with excellent wines and tourist attractions.

Visitors looking for a destination which offers natural beauty spots, romantic places rich in historical and cultural interest, and a wide range of high quality local wines and foods, can find plenty to satisfy their every wish during their stay in this area. This wine tour can be combined with visiting the towns of Vigevano and Certosa, or the Charterhouse, a famous monastery complex in Lombardy built between 1396-1465.
