A Day Trip on Romantic
Como Lake

All about Romantic Como Lake and Como Town

Romantic Como Lake, is only 50 km from the center of Milan and is the "must" destination to visit. If you happen to visit Milan and you have a day or two, do not miss this top romantic travel destination and a great spot for photography. My day trip to the lake has started from Milan railway station Cadorna (also a Milan red line subway station ) . This is the cheapest and fastest way to get to Como Lake (in Italian Lago di Como).

It takes less than an hour to reach the Como Lago station in Piazza Cavour. To find more information about train timetable and prices, visit Ferrovie Nord Milano website.

As soon as you reach the Como Lago , the last station, you will see the lake just few hundreds meters from the railway station. It is practically impossible to miss it.

I have decided to take one of many ferries that link the major villages and towns of romantic Como Lake. It is the best and most romantic way to do some sightseeing from the lake. There is also a bus system to villages around the lake but this was out of question.

The main ferry dock!

From the main ferry dock ( click here to see the pier photo, so you will remember if you go there) there are several ferries leaving almost every hour. I took one at 10,30 A.M. It is a good idea to opt for regular ferries which stops in most beautiful villages on the lake and the other reason is, they have a restaurants for visitors who decide to cruise from Como town to Colico. Here is my itinerary I have taken from Como main dock: Como| Tavernola | Cernobbio | Moltrasio | Argegno | Isola Comicina | Lenno | Tremezzo | Villa Carlotta | Bellaggio.

Lake Como is easily identified on maps of Italy by its shape. You will find it in Northern Italy, as a part of the Lombardy (Lombardia) region known as Northern Italy lake district, and it looks roughly like an upside-down "Y". See the Google map.

Even it was a sunny day I have opted to take a shorter route from Como to Bellaggio , which is a half way. The reason is than I was with my wife and my five years grandson Marco and the whole cruising itinerary would be rather tiresome for him, since he after an hour has explored the whole ferry. The only place he could not enter was the captain cabin. Here is the ferry photo.

I have almost forgotten to inform you that there is so called fast services (fast hydrofoil services) starting from Como all the way to Colico.
