Monte Isola, a mountain
in the middle of the lake

Monte isola - Read what others has to say

Visiting Lake Iseo and Monte Isola (island) should be a “must see” destination. This island, a true mountain, divides the centre of the lake into two canals:

- One is steep and wooded on the south-eastern side which belongs to Brescia province.

- The other is sloping with terraces of cultivated fields on the western side, the province of Bergamo.

There are three main small towns: Siviano, the capital town, Carzano, and Peschiera Maraglio. There are also eight smaller villages amongst olive groves, vineyards and chestnut woods. In the highest spot of the island, 1.968,50 feet above sea level, stands the Madonna della Ceriola Shrine.

What is the best period to visit Lake Iseo? From mid-May to the end of September. Choose a daily boat cruise from June to September starting from Loreto or from Iseo town.

- The Three-Islands Tour of the pearls of Lake Iseo, Monte isola, Island of Loreto and Island of San Paolo is unique and unforgettable with an exclusive itinerary that I can provide starting from Iseo.

- Romantic Blue Night Cruise on Saturdays from June to September and Fridays in August, provides unforgettable evenings with dinner, music and entertainment on board. Reservations are required.

One of the best things on this island is the absolute absence of cars except for police and ambulance. There are bikes everywhere. There are small tour buses for those who wish to see the whole island. This environment makes one dream of a better world that starts here.

The Montisola island itinerary is certainly one of the most breath taking bike tours. From the picturesque fisherman village Peschiera Maraglio you can start your bicycle tour visiting all important villages on the Montisola island. If you want, I can arrange to hire a bike for you.

If you like walking, this island is the right place for you. Walking along the coastal path one can linger on the many benches listening to the sounds of nature. As an alternative you can go trekking up to the monestary to the highest point of the island.

After a long walk or bike ride I suggest you to try some of culinary specialties in one of the many restaurants on the island. I recommend excellent salami and cold pork meat with “polenta” (yellow corn or maize flour). Dried fish, another local traditional meal that has been handed down over centuries, will satisfy the most refined palates.
