Gromo, medieval castle town

Where is this medieval castle town?

The city of Gromo famous for its medieval castle is situated in Seriana Valley and about 26,10 mi from Bergamo and only 7,46 mi from Clusone following the road signs to Valbondione.

This town is a typical medieval municipality built on a rock dominating the whole area. In fact the Gromo castle rose in 1226 on the buttress of a rock, in dominant position respect to the river Serio.

I have visited this city on August 13th from Songavazzo. While I was driving following the road from Clusone, suddenly I was pleasantly astonished when I saw this medieval town in the distance. It was really something ghostly on the first sight seeing this castle town, highly on the rock. It was rather cloudy but very hot day.

I have parked my car far from the center (the very center is a restricted area) and I took an hour walk to explore this romantic town. It was about 15,00 in the afternoon and the street were practically deserted.

Small and narrow street, a lot of stairs leading to upper part of the town and fascinating Ginami family castle. In the inside salons of the castle I admired very beautiful collections of ancient weapons, built in the famous forges of Gromo, and of crucifixes, to which it has devoted a complete room.

My recommendation is “don’t miss to visit Gromo
