Romantic Como Town
Como Town - how to get there from Milan
Visiting Como Lake your first stop will be probably Como town. This romantic Lake town is worth staying a day or two, before you decide to explore the lake by boat or by bus.
Before you go my advice is to avoid weekends in summer, as it is a preferred weekend recreation spot for Milan residents. Be sure to visit
my one day trip to the lake from Milan, Cadorna railway station. Another piece of advice, make your hotel or hostel reservation in advance, as it can be really delicate to find accommodation, whatever is your destination on the lake (
Bellagio,
Varenna or
Como).
Como – what to do and see? Upon arrival the first thing you should do is to get free maps and brochures from the main tourist information office, located in Piazza Cavour ( few steps from Como Lago Nord railway station or from the bus station, depending which transportation mean you chose to get to this town). For more information you can contact them using their phone number: Piazza Cavour 17 - 22100 Como - Tel. 031 269712 Fax 031-261152
One of less known Como’s attractions is funicular or cable railway. The departure station is located on the shores of Lake Como on Piazza de Gasperi. The funicular will take you to Brunate, a village on top of a hill, 692, 4 meters above sea level, that allows you to enjoy the splendid view of Lake Como. The cable railway was opened in 1894 and since then became an attraction for tourists, as well as serving the locals. Along the route there are two intermediate stops, one named Como High and the other called Carescione. A round trip costs about 4 euro and the the cable car departs approximately every ten minutes. The cars used are characterized by the presence of numerous seats and have a capacity of 80 persons each. Don’t miss this trip!
While in Como town you will certainly notice hydroplanes flying frequently over the lake. I know for sure that Como has an Aero Club and there are possibilities to take a tour over the lake by a plane. I have heard they are proposing the slogan “Kiss by seaplane” offering a flight for just married couples or couples in love for special occasions like “Flights of Valentine’s Day”.
Imagine the view on the Lake from this plain and I hope some of you might try this new experience. If you are interested just call their phone number 031 574495 or send them a message on info@aeroclubcomo.com

Como has a very beautiful and romantic lakeside. Take a leisurely walk along the lake from Piazza Cavour towards Villa Olmo or from the monument to Alessandro Volta, passing the stadium. Yachting and aero Club.
